(my tv is a Samsung Q80T, and I stream my content via minidlna, no setup needed).ĥ. Am I able to add a remote server to an identical to mine smart tv outside my network and stream my media just like at home? Am I able to access a network drive outside my network as simply as I do with samba?Ĥ. What are the alternatives to ddns which will give me the same benefits and maintain transfer speeds?ģ. How am I going to use ddns safely from anywhere without dumb security risks?Ģ. But I am now stuck with the following issues:ġ. This is why I decided to work on this first. My project is not gonna be limited to storage and streaming, but I want this part to work flawlessly and from anywhere. I was looking into Cloudflare, but I can't understand what is the difference between it and any other dynamic dns, although they say they are all about security. If a VPN server can be found, then it can't be a good one (right?). There seems to be way to use both vpn+ddns, and that makes even less sense. VPN tunneling seems to be the way to go around this, but this means I'll have to scrap everything related to ddns. It is an extremely convenient way to connect to my server, but opening ports on my router will compromise everything else, which is mentioned in every source I searched about the subject. I am also very confused about dynamic dns and its use. There are obvious security risks, (like points 4, and 5) but I'm more concerned with other risks associated with the other points. Most of my apps do not require a login or authentication. I forwarded ports on my router to be able to connect to my apps, leaving them open to incoming connections.ĥ. My entry in "fstab" is pointing to a specific user and group, "admin:media": Sudo chmod 777 /my/webapps/related/paths -Rģ. I "chmod" every file and folder related to my webapps to "777" with: Sudo chown admin:media /my/webapps/related/paths -RĢ. I "chown" every file and folder related to my webapps to "admin:media" with: (My raspberry pi first created user is "admin")ġ.

But I feel really unsafe for the following reasons: I forwareded the same ports I use locally for some of my web applications and indeed it works, I can connect via a webpage by typing ":webappport" and access my applications from outside my local network. I setup a no-ip account, got a new host name, and setup DUC on the raspberry pi. (Even thou I did this a couple of times before, I'm still baffled by the fact that 1gb ram and a poor little arm CPU can handle all this without even tripping).Īnywayz, I am now concerned with externally connecting with my raspberry pi web applications and making sure it is a safe connection from anywhere I am. I am able to have my pc, laptop, phone and tv reproducing the same content, (while doing all the other processes behind) with no issues. Sharing web applications (radarr, sonarr, e.t.c.) through dynamic dnsĮverything seems to work great, I don't have crashes, failures, my transfers are the expected with a pi 3b+, and my media is flowing in with no issues. Sharing mounted drive content with Samsung Smart TV locally via minidlnaĬonnecting no-ip DUC with ddns hostname created, updating every 5 minutes

For the last 3~4 weeks, I've been creating my project, having to restart a couple of times in the process due to my newbie brain messing things up, like removing su permissions lol
